Author Spotlight Dave Asthouart

Introducing Dave Asthouart, Author and Artist.

Tell us a little about you?

I am not a writer. I am a grumpy old man...

I wrote my first novel, "The Unnatural Woman" in order to have a rant about things that had angered me.

It was a book driven by the frustration of seeing things that I thought were wrong – but an inability to do anything to change them. In The Unnatural Woman, my wrath was directed mainly at legal systems… though the book, once it had taken on its own character, directed the occasional swipe elsewhere.

Despite such bleak origins, some of the people who have read the book tell met that they discovered a compelling story among the rants!

I had never intended writing more than this one book and when, after the final sentence, I wrote, “The End” I believed that it was the end of my book writing as well as the novel.

I knew full well that the book had several loose ends – questions left unanswered. I didn’tc are about that. For me, the book had served its purpose. That was not the case for the little band of friends and family, who had read, corrected and help restructure the manuscript.

It was my daughter who voiced it, “What happened then?”

I didn’t have an answer. I didn’tk now what events took place or what had happened to the characters after I had finished writing.

In order to discover the answer, I would need to write two more novels, "The Red Dress," and "The Eternals." With the completion of this trilogy, I think it really is, “The End”

But who knows?

Donating.

At the time of writing I am donating the royalties from my trilogy to charity – currently, The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NacoaUK) for whom I have been fundraising since 2018.

Dave and his books will be at the Pop-Up Bookshop, on the 8th April, taking place at The Royal Albion Hotel, Broadstairs.
